Description

In this review of recent experimental results on Two Photon Physics, because of time constraints, the author limits his presentation to a few selected topics. He groups the material to be presented under the following 3 headings: A. The Pointlike Character of the Photon: 1. The Structure Function of the Photon, 2. The Process γγ → Hadronic Jets; B. Formation of Even C-Parity Resonances; C. Associated Production of Vector Mesons in γγ Collisions. The field of 2-γ physics got a significant boost from the increasing number of e/sup +/e/sup -/ colliding machines in operation. The authors have come a long way since A.L. Hughes and G.E.M. Jauncy, back in 1930, collided 2 beams of red light in order to study γγ → γγ. Since no scattering was observed they set an upper limit of 3 10/sup -20/ cm/sup 2/ for the cross section area of photons of red light. The physics output from 2-γ physics over the past few years has been both exciting and impressive
