Fuel rod for liquid metal cooled nuclear reactors
Description
The purpose of the invention is to design a nonwetting fuel rod for liquid metal cooled nuclear reactors so that its heat flux is considerably increased and the formation of a hot spot will be avoided. To achieve this, the fuel can, along the whole of its thermally active length, is enclosed by a wire coil wetted by the coolant (sodium). The coil consists of a reactor-compatible stainless steel wire of 0.05-0.5 mm diameter; it is mounted under initial stress and joined to the can by diffusion welding or soldering. (HR)

Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, einen nichtbenetzenden Brennstab fuer fluessigmetallgekuehlte Kernreaktoren so auszubilden, dass seine Heizflaechenbelastung erheblich gesteigert und 'hot spot' Bildung vermieden wird. Dazu wird die Brennstabhuelle auf ihrer gesamten thermisch aktiven Laenge von einer vom Kuehlmittel (Natrium) benetzten Drahtwendel umgeben. Die Wendel besteht aus einem reaktorvertraeglichen Edelstahldraht von 0,05-0,5 mm Durchmesser; sie wird mit Vorspannung aufgebracht und durch Diffusionsschweissung oder Loetung mit dem Huellrohr verbunden.
