Enhancement of metal-ceramic adhesion by ion beam mixing

Description
Ion beam mixing can improve adhesion between thin metal film and ceramic substrate. The modifications of Ag-Al2O3 and Ti-Si3N4 interfaces by 110 keV N+ ion bombardment have been investigated. It is concluded that the improvement of adhesion is attributed to the atom mixing at the interface and the ion irradiation also reduces the degree of cracking on the ceramic surface
