Neutral hydrogen in bright galaxies with strong radio sources

Creators

Description

Neutral hydrogen spectra at 21 cm wavelength of 12 bright galaxies with strong nuclear radio sources are reported. Absorption features were detected in six galaxies with total velocity widths of up to 525 km s-1 in N2623 and 743 km s-1 in I4553. The velocity gradients and total column densities of 1018 to 1020 T/sub s/ H I atoms cm-2 of the absorption suggest that it arises in clouds located in the central parts of the galaxies
