Detection of α-particles via phonons by ionization of A+ centers in silicon

Description
We show that phonon detection by phonon-induced currents in doped semiconductors can be used to detect single particles from radioactive sources. With 5.5 MeV α-particles an energy resolution of about 100 keV has been found on a large Si:B detector. (author)
