Finite element calculations to predict the behaviour of the Sandia 1/6th scale reinforced concrete containment
- 1. UKAEA Safety and Reliability Directorate, Culcheth
Description
Finite element axisymmetric studies have been undertaken pertaining to the Sandia 1/6th scale reinforced concrete containment building to predict its response to internal static overpressurization. The main predictions are that the hoop rebar will yield at 0.95 MPa (138 psi) and that the periphery of the basemat will be subject to excessive uplift at 1.13 MPa (164 psi) when the tensile rebar at the pole of the basemat reaches its ultimate tensile strength (UTS).
