Description

Magnetic insulation plays a crucial role in a number of devices including high power transmission lines, ion diode accelerators, and high power magnetrons. Here we argue that the basic magnetic insulation configuration can support negative energy wave modes, and we show that recognition of this fact facilitates the treatment and understanding of several different macroscopic instabilities from a unified point of view.
