Hot atom chemistry of tetramethylsilane

  • 1. Kyoto Univ., Kumatori, Osaka (Japan). Research Reactor Inst.

Description

Chemical behavior of recoiled 31Si atom produced by the 30Si(n,γ)31Si reaction of tetramethyl-silane in a reactor was studied and the results obtained were compared with those of pyrolysis. The effects of irradiation time and the quality of irradiation vessels on recoil products were also investigated. The recoiled 31Si atoms tend to recombine with methyl radicals by the effects of radical cage. Main recoil products were Me3SiOMe, Me3SiOH and dimers. The Si-Si and Si-C-Si bonds were formed by the recoil reaction as well as pyrolysis. It was found that quartz used as an irradiation capsule contributed to form the Si-O bond in recoil products.
