Extent of pollution of the river sediments; 1 : 1 000 000

On this map the extent of pollution of the river sediments on the territory of the Slovak Republic is shown. River sediments represent fine particles of rocks and biological material transported from the area of collection (catchment) and deposited in the surface stream. The extent of pollution is calculated from the elements quoted in the table next to the map. The 'C' values of the Decision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic No. 531/1994-540 were used as normative ones. The model of pollution distribution is presented. The yellow colour represents the areas where the normative values have not been exceeded. The zero value expresses the concentration equalling to the normative value. Points also express it and the zero value documents the local pollution in relatively unpolluted area. The model was calculated on the basis of 24,432 river sediment samples in the 1 x 1 km network.
