Stereospecific incorporation of oxygen-18 into managanese and rhenium pentacarbonyl derivatives via exchange reactions with H218O
Description
The pentacarbonyl derivatives, M(CO5)6+, (where M = Mn, Re and L = PMe2Ph, CH3CN, C5H5N) underwent oxygen 18 enrichment by reaction with H218O in acetonitrile solvent. Ir spectrographic monitoring indicated preferential oxygen exchange at the equatorial CO ligand rather than at the axial ligand. Infrared spectra of γ(CO) region at time intervals to T = 53 hours were presented, and the observation was made that oxygen exchange was faster for the Mn derivative than for the Re derivative
