DNA lesions: linear energy transfer and radiosensitive mutants

  • 1. Royal Free Hospital, London (United Kingdom)
  • 2. Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood (United Kingdom). Gray Lab.

Description

The development of mammalian mutants that are radiosensitive to ionizing radiation is providing a useful approach to understanding the mechanisms involved in the action of radiation at the cellular level. In particular, the use of radiations of differing LET, in conjunction with these radiation-sensitive lines, is providing a powerful tool in identifying the important repair pathways affected in these cells. Ultimately it is hoped that a better understanding of the effectiveness of these radiations at the cellular DNA level can be attained from such investigations. (Author)
