German experiences with FBR MOX fabrication

  • 1. Siemens AG, Hanau (Germany)

Description

As demonstrated during the past three decades, a broad basis of experience was gained to enter now - with the beginning of the nineteen - into the industrial scale of MOX fabrication. Depending upon the market needs SIEMENS New MOX Plant will be - in principle - equipped for the multi-purpose use of fabricating LWR and FBR MOX fuel. Due to the small progress of the European FBR development it is the aim for the operation of the New MOX Plant to increase the through-put of MOX fuel for use in LWRs at costs, which can compete with the total costs of Uranium fuel (Unat, enrichment, fabrication). By such proceedings, the fuel cycle can be closed in Germany at reasonable costs in the forthcoming years. (author)
