Bombardment induced field conduction in soda-silica glass

Description

The paper examines mechanisms responsible for field conduction within soda-silica glass. Conduction mechanisms in thin glass films, bombardment induced field conduction, and high field conduction mechanisms are all considered. Experimental results are presented on the resistivity of a thin glass film irradiated by electrons and subject to high and low electric fields. The results reveal an increase in conductivity in soda-silica glass when a surface is subjected to bombardment by energetic particles and the glass is subjected to an electric stress. In general, the conductivity increases with increase in both the intensity of bombardment and particle energy. (U.K.)
