A toroidal discharge with multipole field (Asperator T-1)

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

The toroidal discharge experiments in a small device with a multipole field, having an air core transformer arranged arround a plasma column in the vacuum chamber, are described. A stable discharge with a small safety factor (q asymptotically equals 0.8) is obtained when the plasma current is 13 kA and the toroidal field 4 kG. The magnetic probe measurements show that the plasma current region is isolated from the multipole field coil. The effect of the vertical magnetic field on a plasma current is investigated by the measurement of current density profiles. (auth.)
