Pb-Pb method for zircon dating (possibilities and restrictions)

Existence of uranium two radioactive isotopes allows to realize geochronometer, based on lead isotope composition measurement. Possibilities and restrictions of Pb-Pb method, as compared with U-Pb one, is considered. Pb-Pb method possibilities were realized after the development of isotope analysis thermion techniques for elements of silicates lead of zircon among them. Application perspectives for zircon Pb-Pb dating are demonstrated using Aldan shield ancient rocks search as example. It is shown that complex application of zircon Pb-Pb dating in combination with radiography according to fission fragment tracks allows to study the U-Pb systems evolution
