Tritium labelling as an aid in structure determination by tritium NMR
Description
The sensitivity of modern Fourier transform n.m.r. spectrometers has made possible the detection of tritium in samples with as little as 1 mCi of activity. Chemical shifts are essentially identical in 3H and 1H spectra. The application of non-synthetic tritium labelling techniques to produce compounds labelled in specific types of position, combined with the facility to obtain a 3H n.m.r. spectrum, may be used as an aid in elucidating the 1H spectrum and hence structure of a compound. Examples of tritium labelling techniques are discussed
