Laser-driven shock waves in plexiglass
Description
The basic scheme of the irradiating laser beam, the solid plexiglass target and the dye laser beam used for shadowgraphy is shown. The target was irradiated by the Asterix III iodine laser. In the plane of smallest cross-section of the focused beam, 50% of the incident energy was contained in a circle 85 micrometers in diameter. Two cases were investigated and they are discussed in detail prior to comparison with simulations
