Slovenske elektrarne a.s. Bohunice V-2 Nuclear Power Plant (V-2 NPP)

The V-2 NPP in Bohunice is equipped with two WWER-V213 reactors, has a number of significant safety improvements in its design as compared to the V-230 design (V-1 NPP). They are commissioned in 1984-1985. In spite of that, however, there are activities in progress to improve the operational safety. In 1995, the unit 3 generated 2582.15 GWh and unit 4 - 2823.740 GWh of electricity. Plant own consumption was 7.59% at both units. The load factor of the NPP operation since commissioning is very high - 78.75%. In 1995, the factor value was 69.9%, since the operation was restricted by an extended general outage and direct reserves from the Slovak energetic dispatching centre, as well as by using the units for a frequency primary regulation. Collective radiation exposure per unit electricity generated reached the value 0.126 man.mSv/GWh. According this value V-2 NPP belongs to the prominent NPPs around the world. In the next part the inspection and operational activities, nuclear safety improvement, and general evaluation of the operational safety are reviewed.
