Static strain aging type AISI-304 austenitic stainless steel

Description

Static strain aging of type AISI-304 austenitic stainless steel was studied from room temperature up to 623K by conducting tests in which the load was held approximately constant, continuously relaxing and unloaded. The aging times varied between 10s and 100h, using a plastic pre deformation of 9% in most of the cases. The static strain aging of 304 steel furnished an activation energy of 23,800 cal/mol. This implies that vacancies play an important role on the aging process. The curve of the variation of the discontinuous yielding with aging time presented different stages, to which specific mathematical expressions were developed. These facts permited the conclusion that Snoek type mechanisms are responsible for the aging in such conditions. (Author)

Estudou-se o envelhecimento estatico por deformacao do aco inoxidavel austenitico AISI-304 entre ambiente e 623K atraves de testes realizados sob carga mantida aproximadamente constante, relaxando continuamente e com descarregamento total. Os tempos de envelhecimento variaram desde 10s ate 100h, enquanto que a pre-deformacao plastica foi mantida em 9% na maioria dos casos. Obteve-se uma energia de ativacao para o processo de 23800 cal/mol, o que indica a participacao efetiva de lacunas no envelhecimento do aco AISI-304. Foram desenvolvidas relacoes matematicas para os diferentes estagios na curva de envelhecimento representada pela variacao do pico de escoamento descontinuo com o tempo de envelhecimento. Foi, entao, verificado que o mecanismo de envelhecimento atuante neste caso e do tipo Snoek. (Autor)
