Beta Canis Majoris

  • 1. Sydney Univ. (Australia). School of Physics

Description

Beta Canis Majoris has been observed in yellow light, mainly during the 1971/1972 season. The light variation with the 6-hr period ( P1 ) has one-quarter of the amplitude of the 6 hr 2 m period ( P2 ), whereas in the velocities published from 1908 to 1954 and re-examined in this paper, P1 has a 50 per cent larger variation than P2 . Both periods are changing, P1 having increased since 1908 and P2 decreased. In addition, a period of 5 hr 44 m is found to be present in most of the available data; the amplitude of the light and velocity curves at this period are small and variable.
