Electromagnetic waves in conducting medium in cylindrically symmetric space time

Description

Full text: Analysis of cylindrically symmetric stationary metrics has been performing since long time. As it is known among such metrics physically acceptable solution is described by Lewis metric. Certain interest to such metric exists nowadays (1,2). This is conditioned by fact that such spacetime could de quite simple model for treatment an interesting effects related with gravielectromagnetism. In our recent works we study vacuum electromagnetic fields in general Lewis metric (3). In the last cited work study of influence of the gravitation to process of super radiation off infinitesimally thin conducting shell was considered. But astrophysically more acceptable to consider surface layers of star as conducting medium with constant conductivity than describe last by delta singularity. For this reason we found interesting to study possibilities of solution of non vacuum Maxwell equations in medium with constant conductivity in cylindrically symmetric spacetime. System of Maxwell equations for electromagnetic waves of fixed frequency and angular momentum was reduced to system of two uncoupled ordinary differential equations of second order for basic radial functions. Unlike situation in flat spacetime, when forms of the equations mentioned above coincide, in curved cylindrical spacetime the equations for main radial functions differ each other as well as value of conductivity greater. This difference will condition different character of propagation of electromagnetic waves of distinct polarizations in conducting medium under influence of the gravitation. (authors)
