Determination of oxygen in steels by deuteron-induced prompt gamma-ray spectrometry

Description
Researches carried out by our group using PIGE with protons on steel samples have put in evidence a series of elements but oxygen could't be identified. In this paper we have used a 5 MeV deuteron beam as bombarding particles and we have studied the prompt gamma-rays from nuclear reactions of deuterons with the most abundant oxygen isotope 16 O, as well as, their interferences with prompt gamma-rays which resulted from nuclear reactions on iron or other isotopes. We used for oxygen analysis the 495.5 KeV prompt-gamma ray from 16 O (d,n) 17 F reaction and compared our results with those obtained by other methods. (author)
