Composition and structure of the high Tc superconductors
Description
Superconductivity above 100 K has now been known for well over two years, yet the compositions and structures of these remarkable phases is not well established. The chemistry of the Bi/Sr/Ca/Cu/O and Tl/Ca/Cu/O based superconductors is very complex, and this complexity may even be a requirement for high Tc. Our current understanding of these phases will be discussed. Somewhat overlooked has been a rise in Tc to about 35 K in cubic oxides of the type (Ba, K, Rb) (Bi, Pb)O3. These phases could be used at 20 K, and they offer some practical advantages in both junction properties and current carrying capability
