Residue implantation detection system on the Daresbury Recoil Separator

  • 1. Department of Physics, University of Birmingham, Birmingham B15 2TT, UK

Description

A two-dimensionally position sensitive silicon surface barrier detector has been positioned behind the focal plane of the Daresbury Recoil Separator. Proton-rich residue products formed in heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions are implanted into the detector after being velocity and momentum analyzed by the Separator. Subsequent causally related alpha and proton decays are then precisely correlated using the position information to obtain clean decay time spectra
