Description

The strontium adsorption in aqueous solution in two Mexican zeolites was evaluated by a batch process. The effect of different parameters such as the particle size of the material, zeolites in crude form and Na-zeolites, material amount, contact time, ph, concentration and temperature were studied. The adsorption capacity for strontium of both materials was dependent on the type of material, V/m ratio, contact time, initial strontium concentration and temperature. The ph of the solution did not show a significant effect on the strontium adsorption process. It was also observed than an increase in the contact temperature favors strontium adsorption. Also, the use of solutions with high concentrations of strontium increases its recovery in materials. Finally, the kinetic experiments showed a rapid adsorption of strontium in the first 10 hours, reaching equilibrium in approximately 24 hours. (Author)
