3D numerical simulation of mass flow distribution in a TOPAZ-II type reactor core

  • 1. China Institute of Atomic Energy, Beijing (China)

Description

The 3D flow field of the reactor of a TOPAZ H type has been simulated and analyzed using the CFD software FLUENT 14.0, validated by CFX 14.0. The results of the two simulations were quite close to each other; reliability of the calculation parameters thus has been verified. The maximum flow distribution factor is around 1.023, while the minimum 0.985. The results have shown good agreement with that of original design. Trough simulation, it could been concluded that symmetrical operating condition resulted in negligible effect on the flow distribution factor of the whole reactor, while certain unsymmetrical operating may cause little arise to the flow distribution factor. The analysis results lay foundation for the thermal hydraulic design of this type of reactor. (authors)
