5.4. Human population dose from artificial radiation sources in environment

Description
Radiation doses of the human population from the operation of nuclear power plants, from fuel reprocessing and other artificial radiation sources are evaluated. It is shown that more than 50% of doses from nuclear power generation is given by the global dispersion of long-lived radionuclides 14C, 85Kr and 3H. A comparison of natural and artificial radiation sources shows that the greatest proportion of radiation doses from artificial sources comes from the use of ionizing radiation in medicine. (Ha)
