Oxidation of (Ni,Dy)FeB permanent magnets investigated by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy

  • 1. LPCM INSA, 76131 Mont Saint Aignan Cedex (France)

Description

The corrosion behavior of (Nd,Dy)FeB permanent magnets has been studied in oxidizing environments by both conversion electron and transmission Mossbauer spectroscopy. It is found that the Nd2Fe14B hard magnetic phase is not affected by ageing in 90 degrees C with 50% and 90% relative humidity. However, this phase is rapidly oxidized during 200 degrees C ageing, mainly with formation of an inhomogeneous phase, close to the α-Fe phase
