Chemical synthesis using monoatomic gases

Description

Nowadays achievements in the field of preparative inorganic synthesis using reagents in atomic state are considered. It is shown that practically all free atoms are promissing for using in the preparative synthesis. Fluorine takes a special place due to combinatior of low power consumption for atomization with slow recombnnation of atoms during transportation. The fields of using atomic fluorine - preparation of thermodynamically unstable fluorides (O2F2, KrF2), fluorination at any low temperatures, preparation of fluorides characterized by a considerable dissociation at elevated (200-400 deg C) temperatures (PtF6, RuF6, XeF6). Basic characteristics of heterogeneous reactions of atomic fluorine in the kinetic region used in the course of synthesis of XeF2, XeF4, KrF2, NF4BF4 etc. are reported. Due to production of gaseous hexafluorides (WF6, ReF6, MoF6, RuF6 etc.) transition metals f;uorination proceeds according to the kinetic type. The outlood of wide application of atomic fluorine in a chemical synthesis using simple laboratory facilities with productive capacity from 0.3 to 300 moles per hour is pointed out
