Reduction to an ideal instrument by the linear programming method

Description

The general formulation of the problem dealing with determination of relations between amplitudes of signals at an ideal detector output and those for real detectors places in the same radiation field is considered. The detector with spectral characteristics providing direct measuring of the studied physical value is considered as an ideal one. It is shown that the discussed problem is reduced to the linear programming one if the detected radiation continuous spectrum is presented in the form of linear combination of finite number of elementary spectra with unitary energy each of which affects the detector as a whole. It is concluded that suggested approach can be used for determination of absorbed dose in an irradiated medium in a living tissue in particular, by measuring absorbed dose for another substance. The method enables to conduct interval spectrum estimation in any finite number of energy ranges if the instruments with spectral characteristics differing from zero only in the range under investigation are taken alternately as the ideal detector
