Effect of pressure on Raman phonons in zirconium metal

  • 1. Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford, Oxford OX1 3PR (United Kingdom)

Description

Raman scattering has been used to study the pressure dependence of lattice modes in Zr up to 16 GPa. Softening of the zone-center transverse optical mode of α-Zr is observed with increasing pressure. An additional mode, observed above 8 GPa in the upstroke run and in the unloading cycle, is assigned to ω-Zr. copyright 1997 The American Physical Society
