X-ray analysis of internal strain in neutron-irradiated silicon nitrides and oxynitrides
Description
An investigation was conducted to determine if fast neutron irradiation leads to an increase in internal strain in ceramic materials that are to be used in fusion reactors. Such materials must have high strength to withstand high thermal shocks. In the case of Si/sub 2/OH/sub 2/, the only material for which both strength data and meaningful internal stress data could be obtained, the analysis showed that only a small strength decrease would be expected, despite high internal stress. 18 refs
