Solid-phase sintering of tantalum carbides
- 1. Moskovskij Inst. Stali i Splavov (USSR)
Description
Using empirical dependence of changing relative volume of material pores on isothermal sintering duration the analysis of the process of compacting porous billets from tantalum carbide powder and equimolar mixtures of tantalum and hafnium carbide powders, tantalum and titanium carbides. It has been found that the process of tantalum and titanium carbides sintering at 1870-2270 K is followed by increase of geometric sample dimensions which is caused by different diffusion atom mobility of carbidoproducing elements. The correctness of empirical dependence of changing relative pores volume for tantalum carbide billets and tantalum and hafnium carbide mixture in the 2070-2870 K range is confirmed
