Experimental setup for the investigation of fluid-structure interactions in a T-junction

  • 1. Univ. of Stuttgart, Inst. for Nuclear Technology and Energy Systems, Stuttgart (Germany)

Description

The investigation of fluid-structure interactions (FSI) is of mature interest in a number of engineering disciplines. Failures due to fatigue caused by fluid structure interactions are known to the nuclear community. The paper presents first experimental data collected with an experimental setup which brings a new type of induced-fluorescence-system into application. The setup consists of a T-junction of pipes with circular cross-sections with nominal diameter of 80 mm and 40 mm connected to inlet pipes longer than 50 diameters. The optical measurement system utilises the determination of the 2D local water density distribution near the inner wall. (author)
