Neutralization of wide-aperture metal ion beams

  • 1. Tomskij Inst. Avtomatizirovannykh Sistem Upravleniya i Radioehlektroniki, Tomsk (USSR)

Description

It is shown, that neutralization of pulsed (∼300 μs) wide-aperture (∼100-300 cm2) beams of different metal ions with current density ∼ 10-2 A/cm2, ∼ 100 keV energy is realized mainly by secondary electrons knocked out by ions from collector. Feeding of negative voltage -500 V to the extracting electrode relative to grounded collector improves essentially both neutralization of ion beam at transport section and effectiveness of ion generation in accelerating gap
