Investigation of wear behavior of TiN particulate reinforced Si3N4 composite

Description
The wear behavior of Si3N4 and 30% TiN composite was studied under the condition of dry friction. The results indicate that the wear ratio increases with the increasing of the wear load and grit size, but the wear rate has less effect. The wear ratio of 30% TiN composite is higher than that of Si3N4 under the same of experimental condition. The wear mechanism was investigated based on examination of the worn surface with SEM, and results indicate that the wear mechanism of Si3N4 ceramic was the abrasion micro-ploughing worn to the surface, even like wiping, while that of 30% TiN composite was the pull-out of TiN particle, addition to micro-plowing of Si3N4 matrix
