About the tendency to amorphization for alloys immiscible in liquid state

Description

From the standpoint of molecular kinetic theory an analysis is made for the effect of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters on the tendency to amorphization in the systems which components either are mutually insoluble or have extremely limited mutual solubility in liquid state. The estimation is performed for tungsten base system, in particular (W-Cu, W-Ag, W-Ba). A good agreement is observed between calculated and experimental results on the production of metastable states, amorphous state included, in above-mentioned systems during vapor deposition with ultrahigh cooling rates. 6 refs
