Some biochemical and economical indices of cotton mutants
Creators
Description
The quantitative content of fat and gossypol was determined for four varieties of cotton: 108-F, 2833, M-38, and M-20. Mutant M-20 was obtained by irradiating C-4727 variety seeds with a 10 kr dose of gamma radiation. In the seeds of mutants obtained by the action of gamma radiation and colchicine, the greatest reduction in gossypol occurs in the period of post-harvest ripening of the seeds. It should be noted that after treatment with a 10 kr dose of gamma radiation and a 0.05% solution of colchicine, the content of gossypol in the seeds of mutant varieties of cotton increases in comparison with the original variety, but in the post-harvest ripening period, the percentage content falls considerably. The mutant forms investigated, obtained as a result of the action of physico-chemical reagents in specific doses on the varieties C-4727 and 108-F, are thus superior to the original varieties and the standard in terms of certain biochemical and economic parameters.
