Pandemic and nuclear disaster prevention. Nuclear power plants that keep running by turning away from nuclear disaster prevention plan
Description
Even in COVID-19's pandemic trouble, as if it were completely unrelated, power companies are continuing to operate the reactors, and the National Regulation Authority (NRA) and Cabinet Office have given a tacit nod to it. The author (Mr. Satoshi Sato) provides the readers of this 'Science' magazine with the following materials to consider this serious problem and to find out the answer. (1) Is it possible to continue operation if the reactor is safe, even if there is a defect in nuclear disaster prevention? (2) Why is nuclear disaster drill not a mere disaster drill? (3) Should complex disasters be overcome or be avoided? (4) TMI accident and nuclear disaster prevention. (5) Reactor accident analysis and nuclear disaster prevention, (6) Estimation of evacuation time. (7) Findings of National Diet Nuclear Accident Investigation Commission on complex disasters. (8) Nuclear disaster prevention plan of Genkai Nuclear Power Station. (9) COVID-19 pandemic and nuclear disaster prevention. The author summarized necessary information, together with his answers to his own questions and his opinion. The author thinks that in the situation where disaster control is difficult to be compatible with the operation of nuclear reactors, we should choose the shutdown of nuclear reactors in order to actively reduce the difficulty of dealing with disasters. The author hopes that this paper's proposal is supported by the readers and proceeds to realization. (A.O.)
