Description

A new approach, based on Ashby's model, for the modeling of surface modification of Hypo-eutectoid steel with laser beam is reported. The effect of cooling is introduced to predict the value of hardness. The proposed model is applied to steels with carbon contents of weight 0.17%, 0.45%, 0.5% and 0.6%. The calculated micro-hardness and case depth are compared with experimental data. A better agreement between calculated and experimental results than Ashby's model is found. (author)
