Crystal structure of upalite Al[(UO2)3O(OH)(PO4)2].7H2O. An example of mimetic twin
Description
The crystal structure of natural upalite from Kobokobo (Zaire) is determined: monoclinic system, space group P21/a; a = 13.704(4), b = 16.82(1), c = 9.332(2) A, β = 111.5(1)0, V = 2,001 A3, Z = 4. Crystals are always twinned and present the perfect appearance of orthorhombic symmetry. Structure type: phosphuranylite. Layers are connected by two octahedral centrosymmetrical AlO2(H2O)4 and Al(H2O)6 groups and by 2 H2O
Abstract (French)
Systeme monoclinique, groupe spatial P21/a; a = 13,704(4), b = 16,82(1), c = 9,332(2) A, β = 111,5(1)0, V = 2001 A3, Z = 4.
