Extended core cooling recovery analysis for Millstone Unit 3

  • 1. Nuclear Technology Division, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA

Description

Analyses were performed for Millstone Unit 3 to establish minimum time windows and actions necessary for the recovery of stable core cooling during postulated degraded core cooling. An examination of dominant core sequences was then performed to identify dominant failure modes and assess the potential for recovery within the established time windows. These sequences were requantified using success criteria which were extended to include the probability of recovery of failed systems which leads to the establishment of stable core cooling
