On the geochemistry of radioelements in the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Gulf and Kara-Bogas-sulphate-works

Description

Studied are the U, Jo, Ra, Th concentrations and Yo/U, Ra/U and Ra/Jo ratios in the region of the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Gulf. Rapa is a chloride-magnesium-sodium brine with dry residium of about 206-210 and more g/l. Uranium concentration in rapa constitutes from 0.49x10-5 g/l in the gulf region and up to 4.4x105 g/l far away from it. High uranium concentration in rapa is the consequence of the natural concentration by evaporation of water and corresponds to the solution mineralization increase. Jo, Ra, and Th concentrations in rapa of the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Gulf are similar to those in the Middle Caspian Sea waters. It determines the low value of Ra/U (0.2%) ratio. In the Ra and Jo concentration ratio the excess of Ra over Jo is preserved, and it achieves 2100, 2600% to the equilibrium quantity with ionium. Identical concentrations of Jo and Th in the gulf rapa and in the Caspian Sea water causes the analogous values of ratios of their concentrations. On the whole the high U content and rather commensurable Jo, Ra and Th concentrations are characteristic to the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Gulf rapa in comparison with the waters of the Caspian Sea and the World Ocean. Rapa age, calculated according to the uranium balance, constitutes 700 years
