The effect of heating and cooling rate on titanium structure
- 1. Permskij Politekhnicheskij Inst. (USSR)
Description
The structural alterations are studied in technical titanium VTI - 00 during the α reversible β-transformations, depending upon the rates of heating and cooling. It has been shown that the heating rate determines the mechanism of the above transformations. When the material is heated rapidly, these transformations proceed by the shearing mechanism, whereas during a slow heating, by the irregular mechanism irrespective of the initial state (hardening or annealing). The above-mentioned transitions practically always proceed by the shearing mechanism. It has been found that cyclic thermal treatment augments the structural deficiency of titanium, this effect, however, being unstable even at room temperature
