Description

The results of reconnoitering survey of bottom sediments and soils from the drainage area of Cymlyanskoe reservoir for the content of artificial and natural radionuclides are reported. The results of gamma spectrometric measurements are compared with data obtained before and after the Chernobyl accident in 1986. It is shown that practically all 137 Cs in bottom sediments of Cymlyanskoe reservoir is the result of the accident. The content of 137 Cs in the bottom sediments is estimated as 500 Ci. The results obtained indicate the necessity of a detailed and systematic radioecological study of bottom sediments and ecosystem of Cymlyanskoe reservoir. 9 refs
