90Sr in Slovak population in 1971 to 1972: skeleton distribution and transport from milk to bone tissues

Description
Observations of the 90Sr content in the bone tissue of the Slovak population were made during the 1971 to 1972 period. Maximum levels of 90Sr were found in the population group of children aged from 2 months to 4 years in the northern, mountainous regions (1.77 pCi/g Ca). With the children growing up, the proportion of radiostrontium tends to drop down to no more than 0.3 to 0.4 pCi/g Ca. The distribution of 90Sr is assessed by means of the V/D ratio which is also age-dependent and seen rising from the value of 1 up to that of 2.12 for the over-50 age group. Statistical proof is presented of a significantly higher contamination of the bone tissue in the northern region population in comparison with the southern plains. The milk to bone tissue transfer of 90Sr is assessed by the ratio of 0.30 for the population group of up to 20 years of age. (author)
