High-current positron beams in γ-defectoscopy

Description
The scheme of a high-current positron source based on the use of high activity 29Cu64 and an accumulating system based on the magnetic plasma trap is proposed and investigated. If the mass of the active material is about 200 g (activity∼0.01-0.1 MCi), the resulting yield will be as high as 1015-1016 positrons per pulse. Annihilation of the positrons in the target leads to a power pulse (or pulses) of monochromatic γ-rays (hν∼0.511 MeV; the total energy of the monochromatic γ-ray pulses is as high as 1 kJ). (orig.)
