Description
During normal operation and in the event of accidents a series of retention systems minimize the exposure of the population to radiation. Practical experience with the operation of nuclear power stations has meant that filters have been seen less as front-line equipment and more as a standby for accidents as well as a means of protecting staff and improving availability. In contrast, for nuclear reprocessing plants it is essential that normal operation should include an effective retention system. (author)
