Application of the extended effective mass theory to the exciton spectra of Cu2O

Description
An extended effective mass theory has been applied to the exciton spectra of Cuprous Oxide. Various parameters of the theory have been calculated using the available information about crystal structure and its band structure. The screening parameters of the electron and hole charges have been chosen so as to fit the Cu2O exciton spectra for n=1 state. The expected shape of the dielectric response curve and the concordance between calculated and experimental exciton energy levels indicate the success of proposed theory. (JA)
