Comparative studies of MRI and mammography in patients with breast diseases

Description
Objective: To analyze the MRI and mammographic findings of breast diseases and to asses the diagnostic value of MRI and mammography for breast diseases. Methods: Sixty cases of breast diseases underwent MR T1WI, STIR (short TI inversion recovery), and dynamic enhancement scans, as well as mammography by conventional method. Results: The correct diagnostic rate of MRI was 88.3% (53/60). The correct diagnostic rate of mammography was 63.3% (38/60). The correct diagnostic rate of the both methods had statistical difference (χ2=10.23, P<0.01). The lesion detection ability of MRI was superior to that of mammography. Conclusion: MRI is superior to mammography in demonstrating the content and degree of breast diseases. MRI plays an important role in the diagnosis and therapeutic planning for breast diseases
